Ethics probe so big lawmakers have to take a number -- half the Pentagon spending committee caught in net

Hat tip American Kestrel

We already knew that Ways and Means Chairman Charlie Rangel was under investigation for failing to report some of his real estate holdings and rental income, and a few other goodies, on his financial disclosure forms. And that the Ethics Committee was studying Pennsylvania Democrat John Murtha's ties to defense contractors.

Now it turns out that those two were just the tip of the iceberg.

Turns out that nearly half the members of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee, which Murtha chairs, are under investigation for funneling millions in federal funds to clients of a lobbyist who used to work on the Hill. The charge;

For Gadiel, any tribute to his son would be woefully incomplete without those words.

Propaganda on Dept of Health and Human Services Websites

Color me unsurprised. This from an administration who already got caught having meetings with government funded artists asking them to push the president's agenda. This administration is starting to look more Chavez like every week.

Senate Finance ranking member Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) is raising concerns that a Department of Health and Human Services Web site that urges visitors to send an e-mail to President Barack Obama praising his health care reform plan may violate rules against government-funded propaganda.

The Web page is accessed through a “state your support” button featured prominently on the HHS Web site and carries a disclaimer that the Web site is maintained by HHS.

Michael Moore defines Business and Government Collusion as Capitalism - Definition FAIL

#tcot #teaparty #gop #redco #capitalism
Definition of Capitalism from multimillion dollar socialist Michael Moore isn't actually Capitalism. What he seems to be disgusted about is collusion between government and business...HEY MIKE...we on the right hate that too and your Democrats are worse or just as bad about this than the Republicans are.

It is of course his solutions which are confusing.....more government...less free market? This will not fix anything, only make it worse. John Stossel addresses it today at Real Clear Politics.

From John Stossel

Michael Moore is confused.

His new movie, "Capitalism: A Love Story," begins by suggesting that all was well until Ronald Reagan became president and cut the top 90 percent income tax rate. Everything was downhill from there.

Moore declares capitalism evil, but he's never clear about what "capitalism" means. Considering how much time he spends documenting the cozy relationship between business and government, I thought he might mean "state capitalism." (on a side note, this is also something the tea party goers are protesting against)

But then he uses the term "free market" as a synonym for what he doesn't like.

What does the free market have to do with businesses manipulating government and strong-arming Congress for bailouts? Moore properly condemns both. READ THE ARTICLE for John's conclusions, which are homeruns...as usual.

Hat tip to Keith Peterson

She had to move to Massachusetts...when she didn't have private insurance so found out first hand just how well the system she'd been promoting actually works. She asks a good question which I'll answer here.

How could all of these weeks and months go by and no one is examining and talking about what has worked and what hasn't worked in Massachusetts?

Answer; Because the Progressives are not interested in getting something that works, they are interested in getting control of this part of the economy. (see my Reagan Video from yesterday) She goes on;

While the state has the lowest rate of uninsured, a report by the Commonwealth Fund states that Massachusetts has the highest premiums in the country. The state's budget is a mess and lawmakers had to make deep cuts in services and increase the sales tax to close gaps. The number of people needing assistance has at times overwhelmed the state. The mandate means that some people who can't afford insurance are now being slapped with a fine they also can't afford. There is no "public option" in the way the president describes it, no inter-state competition, no pool for small businesses and self-employed individuals like me to buy into groups that negotiate cheaper rates......

What makes this a double blow is that my experience contradicts so much of what I wrote for political leaders over the last decade. That's a terrible feeling, too. I typed line after line that said everything Massachusetts did would make health insurance more affordable. If I had a dollar for every time I typed, "universal coverage will lower premiums," I could pay for my own health care at Massachusetts rates.

Right now, the truth is if I could buy my health plan from D.C., then I would. If I could buy into a public option, co-op, or trigger plan, whatever they want to call it, then I would. If I qualified for the new exchange, then I'd get into that, too... READ THE ARTICLE HERE

Should we Celebrate Columbus DAY?

#tcot #columbus #redco #teaparty
In a word...yes. Here are a few reasons. Regardless of some of the negative things that did happen after Europeans descended upon this land (which we hear about all the time), Columbus is significant and positive for many reasons.

A lot of the naysayers in this politically correct climate have what I call "Gene Roddenberry" disease. They believe that the prime directive is not fiction, that we have no right to say our civilization is better than another. The view that one society is not better or superior to another is completely ridiculous on its face.

Some cultures are better than others: a free society is better than slavery; reason is better than brute force as a way to deal with other men; productivity is better than stagnation. In fact, Western civilization stands for man at his best. It stands for the values that make human life possible: reason, science, self-reliance, individualism, ambition, productive achievement. The values of Western civilization are values for all men; they cut across gender, ethnicity, and geography. We should honor Western civilization not for the ethnocentric reason that some of us happen to have European ancestors but because it is the objectively superior culture.

Columbus Day celebrates the beginning of cultural exchange between America and Europe.
After Columbus, came millions of European immigrants who brought their art, music,
science, medicine, philosophy and religious principles to America. These contributions have
helped shape the United States and include Greek democracy, Roman law, Judeo-Christian
ethics and the tenet that all men are created equal.

Columbus brought America to the attention of the civilized world, i.e., to the growing, scientific civilizations of Western Europe.

Columbus Day also commemorates the arrival on these shores of more than 5 million Italians
a century ago. Today, their children and grandchildren constitute the nation s fifth largest
ethnic group, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

It was Columbus' discovery for Western Europe that led to the influx of ideas and people on which this nation was foundedand on which it still rests. The opening of America brought the ideas and achievements of Aristotle, Galileo, Newton, and the thousands of thinkers, writers, and inventors who followed.

Prior to 1492, what is now the United States was sparsely inhabited, unused, and undeveloped. The inhabitants were primarily hunter/gatherers, wandering across the land, living from hand to mouth and from day to day. There was virtually no change, no growth for thousands of years. With rare exception, life was nasty, brutish, and short: there was no wheel, no written language, no division of labor, little agriculture and scant permanent settlement; but there were endless, bloody wars. Whatever the problems it brought, the vilified Western culture also brought enormous, undreamed-of benefits, without which most of today's Indians would be infinitely poorer or not even alive.

Columbus should be honored, for in so doing, we honor Western civilization. But the critics do not want to bestow such honor, because their real goal is to denigrate the values of Western civilization and to glorify the primitivism, mysticism, and collectivism embodied in the tribal cultures of American Indians. They decry the glorification of the West as "Eurocentrism." We should, they claim, replace our reverence for Western civilization with multi-culturalism, which regards all cultures as morally equal. In fact, they aren't.

Who WasThe Real Che' Guevara?

#tcot #che #revolution #teaparty

"In fact, if Christ himself stood in my way, I, like Nietzsche, would not hesitate to squish him like a worm"
--Ernesto 'Che' Guevara

I have a shirt I wear on occasion that has Che's mug on on it with a line through his face as in "no Che" ...most people these days (even my age) don't even know who he was and I often get puzzled looks. I've been told by one reader that I use the terms communist and socialist too much to describe the enemies of this Republic. It is not my fault that people are not taught real history. I can't find another descriptive term that works better than Marxist, communist, statist or socialist.

A Statist is one who believes that an elite few should be leading the masses. But those elite few must be so wise that they know who to take money from and who to give it too.....that is wise indeed.

These statists have such a low opinion of mankind and such a high opinion of their friends in high places that they do not believe the cattle (people to you and me) will choose correctly unless they are guided, sometimes peacefully, most of the time eventually using violence.

I still say, "GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH".

We capitalists do not have such an inflated opinion of mankind that we do not believe in the rule of law for there will always be law breakers and for a country to engage in crony capitalism is also horrible form of government, though not nearly as bad as a violent dictator with the military behind him against his own people. If true competition is allowed in an economy it brings more prosperity to more poor and middle class people than any form of government, the American experiment has proven that...millions of times over 200 hundred years. In other words, the smaller and less control a government has over its own people the more prosperous and free they will be. The opposite is also true.

Non-statists, or real capitalists who hate crony capitalism too do not believe that there is an elite few who should be in charge because all people are created equal, rich, poor, well born or street born. Politicians of all types are not smarter than we are, in most cases they are bent on power, not on helping people though there are exceptions. Right now America is hungry for a re-founding. For politicians who are not in it for their career or power, but we have seen precious few in the last 75 years. It is why we have 3 branches of government not a king and why there are laws against monopolies.

However, we also believe that a truly free market can curb excess, bring prices down so the poor and middle class will have a higher standard of living and when jobs are a plenty wages and benefits rise. We only have partial free market in the US thanks to the statists in government here and you can see the damage the statists have done everywhere in the US economy.

You'll find that the vitriolic comments below from anonymous visitors accuse the US of crony capitalism (with no specifics of course) and I believe this too must stop, but most of what they have been taught or learned is propaganda. Only real capitalism that allows for the most freedom and discourages monopolies is the way to provide the most opportunity for all, especially for the poor and middle class.

Currently Ernesto “Che” Guevara is being touted as a man of the people, a revolutionary hero. College students wear his face on their shirts and lefties in this country think he was swell. I remember some of Barack Obama's campaign HQ photo's with a picture of Che' on the wall.

The real Che' was a communist revolutionary with a bent for blood.., he personally killed people not just because he was at war with freedom and capitalism but because he enjoyed watching people die. It is also important to note that his boss, Fidel Castro...a man touted by people in the Obama administration as "democratic" and someone to be admired is an iron fisted dictator who imprisons or kills anyone he thinks is working against him while his own country remains terribly impoverished and practically third world.

Consider the kind of man Che was. “When you saw the beaming look on Che’s face as the victims were tied to the stake and blasted apart by the firing squad,” a former Cuban political prisoner told this writer, “you saw there was something seriously, seriously wrong with Che Guevara.”

As commander of the la Cabana execution yard, Che often shattered the skull of the condemned man (or boy) by firing the coup de grace himself. When other duties tore him away from his beloved execution yard, he consoled himself by viewing the slaughter. Che’s second-story office in La Cabana had a section of wall torn out so he could watch his darling firing-squads at work.

Romanian journalist Stefan Bacie visited Cuba in early 1959 and was fortunate enough to get an audience with the already quasi-famous Ernesto “Che” Guevara. Upon entering Castro’s chief executioner’s office, Bacie noticed Che motioning him over to the office’s newly constructed window. Bacie got there just in time to hear the command of “Fuego!” and the blast from the firing squad and to see a condemned prisoner crumple and convulse. The stricken journalist immediately left and composed a poem, titled, “I No Longer Sing of Che.” (”I no longer sing of Che any more than I would of Stalin,” go the first lines.)

You may be saying...well these men (women and children) were condemned to die, so what if he did the deed himself.

Then you should know that the only evidence against these people was likely that that they are accused of opposing the Castro regime. Che Guevara’s instructions to his revolutionary courts: “judicial evidence is an archaic bourgeois detail.”

The one genuine accomplishment in Che Guevara’s life was the mass-murder of defenseless innocents. Under his own gun dozens died. Under his orders thousands crumpled. At everything else Che Guevara failed abysmally, even comically.

During his Bolivian “guerrilla” campaign, Che split his forces whereupon they got hopelessly lost and bumbled around, half-starved, half-clothed and half-shod, without any contact with each other for 6 months before being wiped out. They didn’t even have WWII vintage walkie-talkies to communicate and seemed incapable of applying a compass reading to a map. They spent much of the time walking in circles and were usually within a mile of each other. During this blundering they often engaged in ferocious firefights against each other.

“You hate to laugh at anything associated with Che, who murdered so many,” says Felix Rodriguez, the Cuban-American CIA officer who played a key role in tracking him down in Bolivia. “But when it comes to Che as ‘guerrilla’ you simply can’t help but guffaw.”

Che’s genocidal fantasies included a continental reign of Stalinism. And to achieve this ideal he craved “millions of atomic victims” – most of them Americans. “The U.S. is the great enemy of mankind!” raved Ernesto Che Guevara in 1961:

“Against those hyenas there is no option but extermination. We will bring the war to the imperialist enemies’ very home, to his places of work and recreation. The imperialist enemy must feel like a hunted animal wherever he moves. Thus we’ll destroy him! We must keep our hatred against them [the U.S.] alive and fan it to paroxysms!” READ THE REST AT FRONT PAGE MAGAZINE or Cross Posted at American Thinker.

This is the man the left fantasizes is a hero. There must be some Democrats left who are not won over by propaganda and lies...I know there is. Please join the common sense brigade and help us root out all anti-American leftists in this country. They are on the wrong side of history and common sense about everything...always have been. I am not saying that all lefties are wanna be murderers, I am saying that if they are wrong about such simple things, like what is right and what is wrong, then they can be fooled on just about anything.

They hated us then, and they hate us now, but now they are within in greater numbers. They hate freedom, they hate anyone who owns private property, they hate religion, they hate job creators and risk takers.

These far left, out of touch, Che' loving idiots are the crew that is currently calling the shots in the once great Democratic party. You can see them over at The Democratic Underground , the Daily KOS, Think Progress , and many others. Check out this tweet page dedicated to Che' and Democrat policies. These whacked out lefties are not the majority in the country who are registered as Democrats but they run the party. Pelosi, Reed and Obama are doing their bidding as much as is possible. How long will people inside the Democratic party put up with it?

And no the R's are not the answer, I've never really thought that, though I hoped they would be. But they at least know what communism is. Some of them know where socialism leads. And to those Republicans who think socialism lite is the way to get along....we are coming for you too.

Historical Snapshot - Davey Crockett loved the constitution more than his political career

#tcot #teaparty #founders
Crockett believed that the money government had in their possession (or would have in the future) was not theirs to give away as they saw fit...even to good causes. NOT THEIRS. NOT THEIRS NOT THEIRS.

He believed that we as human beings are personally responsible for helping each other....apart from Government. And he put his money where his mouth is...and he lost an election because of his stand for the constitution. Are there any politicians out there willing to give up political careers for the truth anymore?

Mark Alexander at The Patriot Post has a great historical snapshot of the great American Hero.

Here are some excerpts;

"I cannot undertake to lay my finger on that article of the Constitution which granted a right to Congress of expending, on objects of benevolence, the money of their constituents..." --James Madison

Though he had little formal education, Crockett exuded a commanding presence and was feared, if not loathed, by his more refined congressional colleagues for his backwoods rhetoric.

But it was Crockett's stalwart opposition to unconstitutional spending that is most worth noting given today's congressional penchant for such spending in the trillions.

According to the Register of Debates for the House of Representatives, 20th Congress, 1st Session on April 2, 1828, Crocket stood to challenge the constitutionality of one of the earliest welfare spending bills, a benevolence distribution to the family of a military officer after his death.

While the exact text of his speech was not transcribed (not the practice in those years), the spirit of his words in regard to those proceedings was captured in an 1867 Harper's Magazine article entitled "Not yours to give" by Edward Ellis.

According to Ellis, Crockett objected to the expenditure: "Mr. Speaker; I have as much respect for the memory of the deceased, and as much sympathy for the sufferings of the living, if suffering there be, as any man in this House, but we must not permit our respect for the dead or our sympathy for a part of the living to lead us into an act of injustice to the balance of the living. I will not go into an argument to prove that Congress has not the power to appropriate this money as an act of charity. Every member upon this floor knows it. We have the right, as individuals, to give away as much of our own money as we please in charity; but as members of Congress we have no right so to appropriate a dollar of the public money. Some eloquent appeals have been made to us upon the ground that it is a debt due the deceased. Mr. Speaker, the deceased lived long after the close of the war; he was in office to the day of his death, and I have never heard that the government was in arrears to him.

"Every man in this House knows it is not a debt. We cannot, without the grossest corruption, appropriate this money as the payment of a debt. We have not the semblance of authority to appropriate it as charity. Mr. Speaker, I have said we have the right to give as much money of our own as we please. I am the poorest man on this floor. I cannot vote for this bill, but I will give one week's pay to the object, and if every member of Congress will do the same, it will amount to more than the bill asks."

The author then goes on to explain WHY Crockett believed this, and that story is just as interesting. READ IT ALL HERE

Power and money closest to the ground, closest to the smaller governments of cities, counties and municipalities offers greater control, greater accountability and is how our nation was founded.

Whenever a larger government wants to take over power (and the money that goes with it) away from a county or city, my antenna's start quivering.

The state would take over county responsibilities for child welfare and human services — including food stamps and Medicaid — under a dramatic proposal from a governor-appointed committee that contends the state is better suited to serve Colorado's neediest people.

Tempers have already flared over the recommendation to have state officials assume the work of 64 county human services offices. The 11 largest counties, which serve three-quarters of Colorado's citizens, have hired a political consultant and launched a letter-writing campaign to lawmakers, hoping to halt the idea before it becomes legislation.

"We had no idea this was coming. When I read it, my heart dropped," said Arapahoe County Commissioner Susan Beckman. "I'm really trying to identify what the problem is. I think we're doing a stellar job in providing services."

But members of the Child Welfare Action Committee, many of whom are child and poverty advocates, say they have lost faith in counties' abilities to protect children, deliver welfare payments and food stamps, and administer Medicaid. For years, metro-area counties have struggled to process food stamps as quickly as federal law requires.

If the counties are falling down on the job, then they should be called on the carpet for it. THere are ways and metrics to measure their effectiveness. And doing so on a smaller scale, county by county is much easier than creating another multi-billion dollar state agency. Can the state assist them to get better? Perhaps, but should the state take it all over? If anyone thinks a larger state government takeover of a county agency will create a better system I've got some oceanfront property in Phoenix, I'd love to sell you.
