Diana Degette to discuss health care reform at constituents

#redco #tcot #townhall #teaparty

Although, "townhall meetings" are a very small part of it. Seems to be the modus operandi of Democrats these days, avoid questions as much as possible directly from people who do not support you 100%.

Hard to blame her when THESE GUYS showed up last time her friend Nancy was in town. But rather than deal with the dissent with an argument, they attempt to avoid the argument, block it, stamp it out, destroy it.

Haditha Marine will NOT be Retried- after all charges dropped

#hhrs #tcot #murtha

This is not a huge surprise. the evidence that these Marines committed murder was pretty much non-existent from the get-go. The traction was all political, all Bush Hating, all liberal and all John Murtha. Looks like the final chapter has been written.

I think someone should write another chapter and retire Murtha since he can't be put in jail for this (which is too bad.) If you aren't familiar with the story;

Marines were fired on from a house, they fired back, people inside were killed, it was a tragedy, things like this do not happen often thank God, but not surprising because Insurgents hide among women and children...in HOPES that the our side will kill them so it can be used against us for propaganda purposes. We just don't expect a US congressman to be the propangandist.

Pennsylvania senator John Murtha used the tragedy and went on the attack, (evidence be damned) to try and hurt the Bush administration and said they committed cold blooded murder. This was all said prior to ANY investigation. Murtha has skated the consequences of his politically motivated sacrificing of the members of his former service. ALL charges against all members involved have been dropped after the investigation but careers derailed.

The Marine Corps has decided not to seek to reinstate criminal charges against a former battalion commander at Camp Pendleton for a 2005 incident in which his troops killed 24 civilians in Haditha, Iraq.

Instead, the Marine Corps will convene a Board of Inquiry to hear testimony and recommend whether Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani should be demoted to major for purposes of retirement.

Even if such a recommendation is made and then accepted by the Secretary of the Navy, Chessani’s retirement pay would still be based on being a lieutenant colonel.

The Marine Corps had sought to try Chessani for dereliction of duty for not ordering a war-crimes investigation when his Marines killed the 24, including three women and seven children. Chessani, who was not present when the killings occurred, reported to his superiors that the deaths, while tragic, were the result of fighting between Marines and insurgents.

A court-martial judge threw out the charges after ruling that it was improper for a Marine lawyer who investigated the Haditha shootings to sit in on meetings with the general who decided to bring the charges.

The Navy-Marine Corps Court of Appeals agreed with the judge’s ruling and rejected prosecutors’ requests to reinstate the charges. The court, however, said the Marine Corps could begin a new criminal investigation into Chessani’s conduct and then bring new charges.

But Lt. Gen. George Flynn, assigned by the commandant, Gen. James Conway, to decide what course the Marine Corps should take, decided against a new investigation and a resumption of a crime. From Michelle Malkin

not a surprise to most of us, but now Fox is doing stories about the bias in their competition...very good indeed.

Health Insurance Reform - why we disagree

#tcot #redco #healthcare #obamacare #teaparty
Got an email from a friend who was talking about a local debate going on at St. Andrew United Methodist Church in Highlands Ranch Colorado. It doesn't sound like they did anything but agree to disagree but I wrote her this morning and this is my email to her... in part.

Anne,
Sorry for the long email, but I have a lot of thoughts on this.
You will see from my main question below that it may not be possible to have a compromise in our current political climate. It appears those on the hill right now are looking for the most radical solution and only when forced do they consider other alternatives.

My mom is a retired nurse, long time Democrat (to the point of socialist in my view) so I get in disagreements with her regularly about it. She's so disappointed in her right wing son. :-).

I believe I am very representative of many of the "teaparty" folks, so take that for one point of view...but a very popular one right now and it if gets ignored, there will be huge backlash.
I think the issue for folks like me from the center right (of either party) is not that this issue isn't important, it most certainly is, or that there don't need to be changes, there most certainly does, but some of the problems were caused by those Senators and Representatives who are now trying to fix it, just like the housing crisis! They created laws that restrict competition (while lining their pockets with big money).

We don't trust Washington...either party both seem ruled by special interest money. It is why millions of conservatives who voted in 2004 for Bush did not vote in 2008 for McCain (some even voted for Obama and now have buyers remorse), is that they've grown disgusted with both parties. You see that in these "townhall" meetings.

For those of us who believe that, this is all about a much simpler question;

By what authority does the federal government intervene in health care? I have not found anyone who can answer that question yet, they just make a HUGE leap in logic, ignoring the fact that the constitution does not give the Fed that power...anywhere. The other issue is those that make the leap and believe the Fed should fix it say that the way to do it is to create another health care bureaucracy, using money we most certainly do not have. Even my Democrat family members from Boulder have admitted to me that this is probably not the time to spend a couple trillion more dollars that have not been created yet. Though my mom, (like Obama) thinks we should seize the moment.

The constitutional argument (where I and those like me are coming from) is that the Fed's job is not to make our lives comfortable but only to ensure our freedoms so we can pursue that happiness ourselves. Admittedly if those freedoms are being infringed upon by monopolies then yes they should see how they can change the law to allow more competition, but throwing it into chaos by jumping into the business themselves (which they've already done with Indian Health Services*, the VA and Medicare) is a recipe for a very expensive disaster and very bad medical care.

NOTE: I know that many people use Medicare as an example of a good govt. system and Medicare may be doing OK for its patients in some sectors but it is going broke fast, is wasteful and ripe with fraud. IHS (Indian Health Services) is a one of the worst systems in the world and the VA...well we all have heard the stories.

If you go to YouTube.com and search IHS, look for videos about Indian Health Services, it is sad what those people have to put up with because their system is run by the Fed.

Government is not moral, it is not immoral, it has no incentive to be better than the competition and because of that it does not care and this is an area of life people need a system that CARES, even it if its for profit motives because they will lose their customer.

I trust the market way more than I do the FED...and I get a great deal of my health care through the Fed by way of the military.

There is not one person I have found that can name me a government organization that runs as advertised. They all become bloated and run billions over budget. Companies and individuals learn to game the system because it's impersonal and has no stake, then of course they run out of money.

Competition, competition competition from free citizens and their companies is the answer to this problem. I can't believe that the greatest country in the world can't come up with a better solution than the rest of the world has. Public health care in other countries is not better and does not provide better care than ours...ours is more expensive for consumers and competition is how you fix that. I know we can do it if Washington can look at this from a free market perspective.

I said above that the Fed is at least partly to blame for this problem for passing bad laws that restrict competition and that is true. The other issue (which Obama and his party do not EVER address) is tort reform. Lawyers and HUGE settlements are driving the cost of healthcare up, but the lawyer lobby is the most influential special interest in Washington, ESPECIALLY in the Democrat party. They'd lose millions in support if they tackled tort reform...so they don't.

Bob

*Indian Health Services is medical care provided free to native Americans. This health care system is a result of another treaty with native Americans. Because it is being run by the Fed rather than a free market system, it is once again breaking promises to those poor folks.

24 August 2009

IHS (Indian Health Services) - let me introduce you

#tcot #IHS #healthcare #townhall

The Fed promised through treaty to provide health care to American Indians...another promise broken. I could make an argument here that they should not have promised that to begin with but, that would be another post. Yes they provide hospitals and clinics but as far as the "caring" goes, that is up for debate. These broken promises transcend political party...it doesn't have anything to do with that...it has to do with the government being involved in something they have NO BUSINESS RUNNING.

If you want to see why I and so many others DON'T believe the promises made by the fed to FIX health care here is just another of a thousand examples that can be provided...

For another example; ask any Veteran of Korea or Viet Nam if they know any stories of bad care in the VA system. After they stop laughing they'll start in on the horror tales.

Proponents of the "government option" to make healthcare supposedly "more competitive" ignore the fact that the Fed has never done ANYTHING right in this arena...and of course ignore the fact that according to the constitution, they have no jurisdiction there anyway.

The ONE health care example being pointed to that the fed does right is Medicare... AND they are going broke...if it works so well, why is that?...and Doctors differ on whether they like it, many won't even take it. The bureaucracy of Medicare costs billions...for better care?...nope. Reforming health care has to do with insurance regulation and allowing better competition in the market.

The Government (especially the FED) should not be involved with anything other than providing a safe free market in which to operate for the health care business...and yes it is a business. The more freedom there is in the market (competition) the more the prices will stabilize. Freedom is scary to some people but those of us who are not afraid need to keep fighting for it.

Freedom has the most moral outcome, but to people who want the government to fix everything it is scary because of the unknown factors. Capitalism is the most moral form of government because of the opportunity it provides for all. Allow competition to purge the market of scammers and bad practices, put laws in place to curb fraud waste and abuse, but even keep those to a minimum. The free market only does not work when monopolies are allowed to take over sectors of the market, then there is NO competition...thus no real freedom anymore.

Questions for Tea Party Protesters and the 10th Amendment

#teaparty #tcot #healthcare
Rather than shouting slogans, let's try asking our congressmen the question of the decade.

By what authority does the federal government intervene in health care?

Ah, the stumper! This is the kind of question that reduces arguments to sputtering. The of course-ness factor takes over and results in a virtual cognitive interruptus. The idea that government (whatever that is) exists to fix problems (whatever they are) is so ingrained in the common mentality that the very question of what is proper is not even considered. Surely only cranks and constitutional fossils would ever go there! But, of course, our founding fathers started there.

Dealers pulling out of Cash for Clunkers for non-payment

#tcot #redco #obamacare #cashforclunkers
Hundreds of auto dealers in the New York area have withdrawn from the government's Cash for Clunkers program, citing delays in getting reimbursed by the government, a dealership group said Wednesday.

What the administration (nor the Democrats in charge) fails to realize nor understand is how businesses work in this country..especially cash businesses like car dealerships. They can't wait months to get paid, all the while they are out the money.

This is EXACTLY why there should NOT be a government run (co-op or single payer or gov option) in health care. Government cannot by its very nature be efficient, it is a giant wasteful machine that is only good for a few things (see US Constitution for clarification about which things).

The program offers up to $4,500 to shoppers who trade in vehicles getting 18 mpg or less for a more fuel-efficient car or truck. Dealers pay the rebates out of pocket, then must wait to be reimbursed by the government. But administrative snags and heavy paperwork have created a backlog of unpaid claims.

Schienberg said the group's dealers have been repaid for only about 2 percent of the clunkers deals they've made so far. READ THE REST

Cash for Clunkers Not Working for Dealers

#tcot #healthcare #clunkers
hat tip holycoast.com
Apparently the gubmint is not paying dealers as promised...gee what a surprise...this is typical of the government enterprise, slow to pay, inefficient and usually, but not always inept. The cash for clunkers program is touted as the most recent gubmint success, though I can't figure out why.

.....gee lots of Americans went into deeper debt by getting loans to buy a NEW instead of used car, their old perfectly good (although not as efficient) car needlessly destroyed, and the dealership waits for their bailout checks to come....what a huge success.....NOT.

Although, for Asian carmakers, the cash for clucker's program has been great!

The federal government has only reimbursed auto dealers for 2 percent of the claims they've submitted through the popular "cash for clunkers" program, a Pennsylvania congressman said, calling on the Obama administration to help speed up the process.

Rep. Joe Sestak, D-Pa., called for "immediate action" to address the problem in a statement Sunday, after writing a letter to President Obama Saturday expressing his concerns.

In the letter, Sestak said only 2 percent of claims have been paid and that four of every five applications have been "rejected for minor oversight."

In recent days, auto dealers across the country have been complaining that the reimbursement payments are slow to process. READ THE REST

Free Market Health Care Reform

#tcot #hhrs #redco #
As usual, those in government who want to fix the problems, helped create them just like the Housing Crisis.

Laws that impede competition hurt the market...and costs are passed down to consumers and a crisis is used to take drastic action, that as with most government solutions will not work.

John Mackey today posted some great alternatives using Whole Foods Store's employee plan as a model. Most ALL these ideas have been put forward by conservatives in Congress, but ignored for a long time and so need to be stated again. It is a lie that Republicans are just saying NO...they've been saying we need reform for some time, but the lobbyists in DC hold sway over decisions being made...especially the trial lawyer's lobby.

Here are some excerpts;

• Remove the legal obstacles that slow the creation of high-deductible health insurance plans and health savings accounts (HSAs). The combination of high-deductible health insurance and HSAs is one solution that could solve many of our health-care problems.

• Equalize the tax laws so that employer-provided health insurance and individually owned health insurance have the same tax benefits.

• Repeal all state laws which prevent insurance companies from competing across state lines.

• Repeal government mandates regarding what insurance companies must cover. These mandates have increased the cost of health insurance by billions of dollars. What is insured and what is not insured should be determined by individual customer preferences and not through special-interest lobbying.

• Enact tort reform to end the ruinous lawsuits that force doctors to pay insurance costs of hundreds of thousands of dollars per year.

• Make costs transparent so that consumers understand what health-care treatments cost.

• Enact Medicare reform. We need to face up to the actuarial fact that Medicare is heading towards bankruptcy..

• Finally, revise tax forms to make it easier for individuals to make a voluntary, tax-deductible donation to help the millions of people who have no insurance and aren't covered by Medicare, Medicaid or the State Children's Health Insurance Program.

Who do you fear?

#tcot #redco #healthcare #teaparty

I came to the conclusion a long time ago that the difference between "liberals" and conservatives, between socialist embracers and free marketer embracers is that the Liberal fears business much more than they fear the government and visa versa.

Today's Rasmussen survey asked likely voters an interesting question: when it comes to health care decisions, which do you fear more--insurance companies, or the government? By a 51-41 percent margin, respondents said they fear the federal government more. This seems right to me; I really don't understand why anyone would be afraid of an insurance company. The breakdown is interesting, too. People who actually have health insurance are much more afraid of the government, but people who don't have health insurance fear insurers more than the government.

HT Powerline Blog, read the rest here

The reason I put "liberal" in quotes is because classic liberalism is libertarian. Modern liberalism is socialism, bordering on the embrace of Marxism and solidifying government power over poeple...there is nothing "liberal" about it.

Noonan Hits nail on the head about Obamacare protesters and stunned looking congressman

#tcot #gop #teaparty

Speaking about congressman stunned by the passion at the town hall meetings Noonan said;

They hired a man to represent them in Washington. They give him a big office, a huge staff and the power to tell people what to do. They give him a car and a driver, sometimes a security detail, and a special pin showing he’s a congressman. And all they ask in return is that he see to their interests and not terrify them too much. Really, that’s all people ask. Expectations are very low. What the protesters are saying is, “You are terrifying us.”

What has been most unsettling is not the congressmen’s surprise but a hard new tone that emerged this week. The leftosphere and the liberal commentariat charged that the town hall meetings weren’t authentic, the crowds were ginned up by insurance companies, lobbyists and the Republican National Committee. But you can’t get people to leave their homes and go to a meeting with a congressman (of all people) unless they are engaged to the point of passion. And what tends to agitate people most is the idea of loss—loss of money hard earned, loss of autonomy, loss of the few things that work in a great sweeping away of those that don’t.

People are not automatons. They show up only if they care. READ the rest

Cars.gov can allow access to your computer files by the government

#tcot #gop #carczar #hoax
Cars.gov access to computers is not true.

I should not be getting information from Glenn Beck apparently.....you'd think someone in his position would CHECK THIS CRAP OUT!....

Even consumers who may have inadvertently stumbled across the notice and clicked on it to indicate their assent were not in danger of having the "government take all the information on their computers," says SNOPES

Actually no one said they were in danger of that, what they said was that this legally gave them the right to.

Snopes goes on to say that the text was "poorly worded" (um...understatement much?) and only applied to dealers, never to consumers.

The "poorly worded" text said this;
