John Stewert Skeward by Cliff May
The Read of the day and all you ever wanted to know about the good people at the CIA and why Stewart is just another brain dead mouthpiece for the left.
Here are some excerpts but you must read the whole thing, seeing Stewart getting handed his snarky hat is always a good thing.
Look, we know this: Khalid Sheikh Mohamed was captured. He said: “I want a lawyer.” He didn’t get one — I know some people think he deserved one, but he’s not a criminal defendant or an honorable prisoner of war. The Geneva Convention does not cover him — even Obama’s attorney general, Eric Holder has said that.
Now maybe you think asking him again and adding pretty please with a cherry on top would have produced results in time. The intelligence officials didn’t think that. They went to the Justice Department and said: “What can we do? How far can we go to save lives?” And they got the information they needed — and we haven’t had another attack on American soil since.
The current administration appears to have ruled out any coercive techniques: No sleep deprivation — not even for a night. No loud music — it drives the terrorists crazy! So it’s torture! Better to let the attack proceed. The victims and their families surely will understand. We basically have three weapons against terrorists: capture them, interrogate them, kill them. But there’s no point in capturing if you can’t effectively interrogate, so that leaves just killing. How do you justify that? How do you say, “Yes, you can hit that terrorist with a Predator missile but you can’t make him listen to Slim Shady”? READ THE ENTIRE THING

Democrats change the rules and leave the constitution behind them
update; HB1229 is dead, Democrats fail in attempt to subvert founding fathers read about it at Mount Virtus. ...whew!
DENVER -- Colorado Senate Republicans have tried but failed to kill a bill to change the way the state's electoral college votes are cast. House Bill 1299 was at the top of the list of measures up for their first full vote in the Senate this morning. Republican Sen. Mike Kopp of Littleton moved to lay over the bill until May 25 -- long after the lawmakers are scheduled to adjourn -- but that motion failed on a voice vote.
Under the bill, Colorado's nine electoral votes would go to the candidate who receives the most votes in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Full story
In other words, Colorado Democrats apparently want Colorado to have NO INDEPENDENT SAY in the presidential election. You know this could really backfire on them, but I prefer the constitution thank you very much. If all states did this then New York and California would decide for the rest of the country...that perhaps is what they really want.
The bill now goes to the Senate.
It is not too late, call your representatives.

Big Brother the Hockey Referee
Comedian Steven Crowder is now writing over at Big Hollywood. So far his columns are nearly as good as his comedy routines, and almost as funny. This week's column shares a great analogy about the what the role of government should be in a true democratic republic. Here is an excerpt;
I was back in junior high when my dad used this unforgettable analogy: “The role of the government is similar to that of a hockey referee. His job is to keep the players safe and keep the pace of the game. No more, no less.”
Granted, my dad was really just trying to simplify an explanation for me amidst a time in my life where I’d rather be lighting my own flatulence than engaging in true political discourse,...
Steven then explains how the analogy is perfect from a Canadian's point of view. Then explains the liberal view of the referee's role.
The one legitimate function of government (our military and law enforcement) are the only branches that libs consistently and vehemently oppose. I’m guessing a liberal analogy would read something like this.
The role of a referee is not to keep the players safe, but to control the scoreboard. The final score of the game is up to the referee’s judgment and to be be administered fairly. The only time he is allowed to call a penalty is when a player is playing too well for his own good.

Spector to officially defect to the Democrat party
And he says it's because the party has moved to the right! buwahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahha...chortle, snerk. It would be funnier than that if his move didn't give the Dems a filibuster proof majority. But he always voted with them anyway.
The Rep's have moved to the right? Unbelievable blindness and idiocy. Good riddance ya loon.
“Since my election in 1980, as part of the Reagan Big Tent, the Republican Party has moved far to the right. Last year, more than 200,000 Republicans in Pennsylvania changed their registration to become Democrats. I now find my political philosophy more in line with Democrats than Republicans.”
How bout this reason instead;
This switch is not about his political philosophy as much as it's about the conservative challenger Pat Toomey who was mopping the floor with him in early polling. Specter was gonna lose in the primary. Now, if he doesn't get a primary challenger, he can wait until election day to get his clock cleaned.
There something else missing in Specter's statement. Remember Operation Chaos? That was the effort by Rush Limbaugh to get Republicans to switch their party affiliation so they could vote for Hillary in the primaries. Thousands of them did and Hillary won the Pennsylvania primary. Specter may be justifying his decision based on bad information.
Regardless of how he came about it, I think most Republicans will be glad to see him go.

Obama's First 100 Days in Detail
RedCounty does an outstanding job of showing the "change" and "hope" we are actually getting with President Obama and his cabinet. This is not just the same ole politics, this is one of the worst cases of "tell America what it wants to hear just to get elected" since Bill Clinton.
Day 1 -- January 20: In his Inaugural address, President Obama makes a noteworthy commitment to the American taxpayer:
“And those of us who manage the public's dollars will be held to account, to spend wisely, reform bad habits, and do our business in the light of day, because only then can we restore the vital trust between a people and their government.”
Day 7 -- January 26: Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner is sworn in by Obama despite having owed more than $40,000 in back taxes and interest.
Day 10 -- January 30: After a long career working and voting FOR tax increases and working and voting AGAINST tax cuts, Obama’s Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) nominee Tom Daschle is first reported to have paid over $100,000 in back taxes.
“Make no mistake: Tax cheaters cheat us all. And the IRS should enforce our laws to the letter.” (Sen. Tom Daschle speaking on the Senate floor on May 7, 1998) [Video]
Day 14 -- February 2: In order to ensure “What happens in Chicago, stays in Chicago” by preventing corruption and kickbacks arising from the “stimulus” bill, ATR asks each Member of Congress planning to vote for the bill to sign a statement promising that they, their family, and the members of their staff will not personally benefit from the bill. All refuse.READ THE REST
Happy 100,000th to The Daily Blogster
I am actually now thinking about moving on to something else. I still love it but don't have much time for it anymore. The job is very busy (less downtime at work for non-work items) and my brain can't seem to be able to multi-task as well as it used to.
I have a lot of interests and I am losing the ability to concentrate on my family, God music, military, civilian career plus writing about politics, national, local and regional and do any of them well at all. Somewhere in there I'd like to write and get paid for it too.

Miss California this week learned that the hard way.
I apologize for not blogging much lately, life has gotten very busy with more important things. I am even contemplating quitting the Daily Blogster for a while or permanently to pursue less political thought. There is only so much room in my life and brain for activity, new endeavors both on the spiritual front and on the business front are now UP front.
If the lack of blogging continues, I'll pass it along to a deserving blogger.

Navy Sailors can't PCS after 1OCT
For those not familiar with the acronym, it stands for permanent change of station (PCS) and is misnamed. It means you are moving to your next duty station for a year or three.
The Navy is apparently expecting huge budget shortfalls. I am glad I already have been approved for my annual training tour for the reserves. That money comes from a different pile but I am sure they will be cutting that as well.
Navy To Sailors: Stay Put!
The money crunch continues:
The Navy announced plans April 14 to place a temporary hold on selected permanent change of station (PCS) moves in order to remain within budget.
The decision means that as many as 14,000 Sailors who have not already received orders may not be able to transfer until after Oct. 1 when the new fiscal year begins.
Individuals currently under orders will be allowed to rotate as planned.
…
Exceptions to the PCS hold include orders for Sailors separating from the service, individual augmentees and Global War On Terrorism Support Assignments (GSA), new accessions, organization moves as well as selected Joint Professional Military Education (JPME), graduate education moves and readiness moves.
I can recall this happening when cash was tight in the past, but never with five and a half months left in the fiscal year.

US Navy Snipers Shoot Pirates, Save Skipper of Maersk-Alabama
“The snipers positioned on the fantail of the Bainbridge observed one of the pirates in the pilot house -- and two pirates with their head and shoulders exposed -- and one of the pirates had the AK47 (assault rifle) leveled at the captain’s back,” Gortney said.
Gortney said the White House had given military operators "very clear guidance and authority" if Phillips' life was in danger.
“The on-scene commander took it as the captain was in imminent danger and then made that decision (to shoot), and he had the authorities to make that decision, and he had seconds to make that decision,” he said.
On the marksmanship of the snipers Gortney said, “We pay a lot for their training and we got a good return on our investment.”
Naval forces rescued Phillips on a rigid-inflatable boat and transferred him to the USS Bainbridge before being flown to the amphibious assault ship USS Boxer, where he contacted his family, received a routine medical evaluation, and is resting comfortably, ccording to a U.S. Navy statement.
Gortney said Phillips was in good health and suffered no apparent injuries, despite being “tied up inside the lifeboat” for at least part of his five days as a hostage. He noted that a fourth pirate surrendered and is being held in U.S. forces’ custody. SOURCE DefenseLink
The news that Captain Richard Phillips has escaped unharmed from Somali pirates provoked jubilant celebrations in Mombasa port Sunday.
The thundering horn of Phillips’ ship, the Maersk Alabama, sounded three times and flares were fired into the night sky.
“He’s a national hero,” shouted one of his crewmen from the Maersk Alabama to journalists gathered by the ship at the Mombasa docks. “We’re all excited about the captain being freed.”
The 19 crew whooped with joy at the news that their captain was free after a tense, five-day standoff.
U.S. Navy SEALs shot three armed pirates who were holding Phillips hostage on the lifeboat where he had been held captive since Wednesday, according to CNN. This report from the Navy states that Navy special forces believed Phillips was in "imminent danger" and they shot the pirates. This changes the initial report that said Phillips jumped into the water from the lifeboat and then the Navy SEALs shot the pirates dead to protect him.

Denver News - Rockies Home Opener and RTD Money
#redco #colorado #denver #rockies
Colorado Rockies home opener has Lodo and the city buzzing with activity this morning. Several news outlets including, 850KOA and FSM (Fox Sports Rocky Mountain) have large banners, talent and camera crews wandering the streets of Lodo.
The local news channels also are doing their proverbial "today is the Rockies Home opener" stories from the corners in Lodo.
Parking lots that normally are $5 and $10 are $50 and $60 this morning. I am a capitalist, I believe in the free market...and my hope is those lot owners have empty spaces. This will force them to lower their prices or else only rich people will be able to attend baseball games. I don't want to see the working stiff stiffed again...just like they (we) are for other sports. I haven't been to a pro football game in years, who can afford to spend that many hundreds of dollars for 2 hours of fun?
The Rockies rise to fame in 2007 probably brings back different memories for me than for most of you. I was on board the USS Enterprise doing a 5 month deployment in the Persian Gulf and I think I was the only Rockies fan on board.
I have been to probably a hundred Rockies games and it was killing me to watch them do this from so far away....at 3:00 am in a berthing compartment with 35 snoring shipmates, but I was there with you in spirit and I woke up many of my shipmates hootin' and hollerin' for the most miraculous winning streak I have seen since Elway's drive....yes I was annoying, especially to Padres fans, you would have been proud of me.
---------------
Dear RTD,
If it ain't broke please don't spend our money to fix it.
On a totally unrelated note except that it's downtown Denver; RTD spends who knows how many 10's of thousands of dollars on new signage in Market Street Station (probably Broadway station too) that can't be read from a distance.
In this economy one takes note of when tax dollars are being wasted on items that are only for comfort and asthetics...especially if they suck.
First let me tell you a bit about the signs they have used for years...and worked FINE. They were big, readable electronic signs that could be read from a far distance from any angle.
They've been replaced with LCD's 1/10th the size that can't be read unless you are standing directly in front of them...oh but they are probably connected to the internet so that's an improvement.
I could see if the new signs provided more readable information, but the one thing they need to do well they don't do. I can't tell if I have the right bus until I walk to that end of the station and stand in front of a TV screen...I might as well just walk outside, the sign on the bus is easier to read. A quick glance at the board was all I needed prior to the "improvement".
Whoever decided to go ahead with this project at this time should be fired....and if they originally had bigger signs in mind but someone cut back on size due to budget concerns...should be fired.

The Liberal Plan Exposed
Classic explanation of the march leftward and how the left is doing it from Pajama's Media.
Pirates Seize US Ship *update Crew takes it back!!
Pirates commandeered a United States-flagged container ship with 20 American crew members off the coast of Somalia on Wednesday, the first time an American-crewed ship was seized by pirates in the area.
The container ship, the Maersk Alabama, was carrying thousands of tons of relief aid to the Kenyan port of Mombasa, the company that owns the ship said.
The ship was taken by pirates at about 7:30 a.m. local time, 280 miles southeast of the Somali city of Eyl, a known haven for pirates, a spokesman for the United States Navy said. It is owned and operated by Maersk Line Limited, a United States subsidiary of A.P. Moller - Maersk Group, the Danish shipping giant.
The Maersk Alabama was at least the sixth commercial ship commandeered by pirates this week off the Horn of Africa, one of the most notoriously lawless zones on the high seas, where pirates have been operating with near impunity despite efforts by many nations, including the United States, to intimidate them with naval warship patrols.
****** UPDATE The official said the status of the other pirates was unknown but they were reported to "be in the water." The official spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter.
Another U.S. official, citing a readout from an interagency conference call, said: "Multiple reliable sources are now reporting that the Maersk Alabama is now under control of the U.S. crew. The crew reportedly has one pirate in custody. The status of others is unclear, they are believed to be in the water."
The ship was carrying emergency relief to Mombasa, Kenya, when it was hijacked, said Peter Beck-Bang, spokesman for the Copenhagen-based container shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk.

Republican Budget Alternative - tax less, spend less- common sense
My Obamaite friends have been ribbing me for a while about the Rep's just being against everything and not offering alternatives. In fact they have been for something...SLOWING DOWN the speed at which the spending bills are being RAMMED through...WITHOUT ANYONE EVEN READING THEM!!!!...but they also have a budget alternative.
From Red County
And if you want to talk numbers, how about these?
- The Republican Budget saves $100,000,000,000.00 ($100 billion) in 2009 alone.
- Over Ten Years, it saves $3,300,000,000,000.00 ($3.3 trillion)
The Republican Budget borrows $3,600,000,000,000.00 ($3.6 trillion) less because it spends $4,800,000.000,000.00 ($4.8 trillion) less.
The Republican Budget reduces federal spending to the historic average of 20.7 percent of GDP by freezing nondefense spending (except for veterans) in 2010-2014 and then allowing moderate increases through 2019.
You decide who will lead America to prosperity again.
LINK TO BUDGET Proposal (only 65 pages!) and also is short on details. With the speed of the Democrats spending proposals, they had to get something out quickly to offer an alternative.
From John Boehner (recommend read his entire post on the budget)
How is the Republican budget different from the Democrats’ budget on the issue of taxes? The House Republican budget:
- Does not raise taxes
- Permanently extends the tax relief provisions enacted in 2001 and 2003
- Extends the current AMT “patch”
- Lowers the corporate income tax from 35 percent to 25 percent
- Suspends capital gains taxes through 2010
- Allows individuals to choose how they will pay their federal income taxes
- Simplifies income tax rates
"but the Republicans have spelled out ways to reduce President Obama's massive deficits. "End a litany of controversial programs of doubtful value to the public," and don't assume additional spending for bailouts—at least that would be an improvement over what the Democrats have to offer."
Even a summary of the GOP alternative helps shoot down "the Democrats' spin that Republicans have 'no ideas,'" said Jennifer Rubin in Pajamas Media. The Republicans would rein in spending, lower taxes, and provide universal access to health care not through massive new unfunded liabilities, but through "common sense reforms." This marks a direct attack on Obama's budget and an attempt to re-establish the Republicans as the party of "fiscal sobriety." source The Week

With 'Atlas Shrugged,' Hollywood may have its first anti-bailout movie

Hat tip Jim at Right Wing PopcornHollywood could soon be going Objectivist.
After decades in development hell, Ayn Rand’s capitalism-minded “Atlas Shrugged” is taking new steps toward the big screen — with one of the film world’s most prominent money men potentially at its center.
Ryan Kavanaugh’s Relativity Media is circling the Baldwin Entertainment project and could come aboard to finance with Lionsgate, which got involved several years ago.
