Sheep, Wolves and Sheepdogs part 2.

Last week I posted an email I got from a friend. The concept, the word picture and the ideas behind it have been on my mind since I posted it. I like the analogy, so I thought I’d expand on it, using my own thoughts. The word picture behind this analogy came from Dr. Bill Bennett and a speech he wrote to a graduation class at the Naval Academy in the 90’s.

Where were you on the morning of September 11? Most of us can remember where we were, but do you remember what went through your mind while watching the second tower get hit, what you were thinking the moment you knew this was not an accident?

Did you think, ‘those poor people’ or ‘I am glad I was not on those planes’ or in the tower or ‘Thank God I don’t know anyone on those planes’?

My first thought was "I wish I had been on that plane so I could have helped take down those terrorist animals”. Does that seem strange or foreign to you? I know several other people that thought the same thing, but most of course did not.

Most citizens are kind, decent people, not capable of hurting each other except by accident or under extreme provocation. Just for the sake of this analogy I will call them sheep.

This is not a put-down or an insult. Christ himself (the most loving man to ever walk the earth) referred to people as sheep....it is an analogy people. All analogies break down and so does this one. It is not perfect.

Some folks turn to sheepdogs (protectors capable of violence) when their families are attacked for instance, but normally are peaceful sheep. Then there are those that operate as sheepdogs all the time, the policemen, the fireman and of course the soldier.

There are people in this world that feed on sheep. Thank God they are a minority but they exist. They will kill you just for being a sheep. They have an evil hunger they have to feed. There is no denying it. Throughout history there have been people like this, Hitler, Stalin, Bin Laden and others that follow them. These wolves take advantage of "nice" people and consider the avoidance of conflict...weakness and it emboldens them.

Research was conducted a few years ago with individuals convicted of violent crimes. These cons were in prison for serious, predatory crimes of violence: assaults, murders and killing law enforcement officers. The vast majority said they specifically targeted victims by body language: Slumped walk, passive behavior and lack of awareness. They chose their victims like big cats do in Africa, when they select the one out of the herd that is least able to protect itself.

Then there are sheepdogs. Thank God for sheepdogs. Sometimes they are born that way, sometimes they evolve into the role. They patrol the streets in blue, they run into burning buildings, they face the enemy most sheep like to ignore.

Sheepdogs live to protect the flock and confront the wolf. If you are like this, then you are a sheepdog…..but If you have no capacity for violence and you are a healthy productive citizen, you are a sheep.

Sheepdogs have a capacity for violence, and a deep love for the flock, they are the protectors, the warriors. They can walk into the heart of darkness and face the wolf, while others run, in fact sheepdogs live for it, it makes them feel alive and fulfilled.

"Good people sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf. " George Orwell

However, those that have a capacity for violence and no empathy towards their fellow citizens, and can justify killing people just for existing differently than they do are aggressive sociopaths, or in the case of this analogy.....wolves.

I discovered in my mid 20’s that God had made me, a sheep dog. It is in my nature, or has become part of me want to want to serve and protect in some capacity. I am compelled to do so. I could easily be a cop, a fireman or a soldier. A sheepdog is not better than the sheep, they just have different purpose and a different heart.

That heart makes the sheepdog ok with violence when it is in protection of the sheep. Sheepdogs are also more keenly aware of wolves when they are about, we sense them and are aware of how they can sneak up on the sheep.

Since 9-11 many people in America took a step up and away from denial of the wolf species. The sheep took a few steps toward accepting and appreciating their sheepdogs, and those warriors started taking their job more seriously too.

Just a few short years later however, a small but vocal group of sheep started denying once again the very existence of dangerous wolves. They made movies and spoke out, preaching that the pack of wolves was really small and there is no real reason to fear. They said the sheepdogs only exist to protect their jobs so they just want us to be afraid. Even worse they say that sheepdogs love violence and kill wolves, and their families for fun.

The another group of misguided sheep said; Since we are losing to the wolves anyway we should talk to the wolves and be really nice so they won't eat us".

These people are not just sheep, they are either wolves in sheep's clothing or most likely they are baby/ immature sheep. They deny the existence of an enemy who is bent on our destruction, an enemy who is committed to raising their own children to hate us and kill us too.

Baby sheep are dangerous if they are followed. They don’t know the danger, they don’t know their purpose and they don’t know where they are going.

If they are a legitimate baby sheep (a young person) such ignorance is tolerated, everyone was young once. But if they are an adult who should know better, they should be shamed, loudly and openly so that all sheep know they are dangerous and wrong.

Baby sheep are one reason why I have committed this blog to sounding the alarm to sheepdogs and sheep. Many blogs like mine are an alarm that points to where the wolf is and tells the flock and the other sheepdogs how to recognize him.

As I prepare for a deployment in the GWOW (global war on wolves) with the US Navy, I do not count myself worthy to untie the shoes of soldiers, marines and policeman who face the wolves teeth up close. I am just one of those old sheepdogs in the back pointing to where the wolves are and helping load the guns to kill or capture them, and I am OK with that, I am an older sheepdog, not as agile as the young pups.

If you are a sheepdog and you know it and want to do something about it, see your local Marine, Army, Navy or Coast Guard recruiter. Join the police force, do something to help us find and kill the wolves.

Find a way to embrace your inner sheepdog. Of course violence towards the wolves isn’t the only way to embrace your inner sheepdog. You could be a writer or make movies, become a preacher, run for office, or just live your life in defiance of the wolf like this guy did, being vigilant, raising a loving and righteous family or whatever you choose to do.

If you are sheepdog, you know it. Don't let the sheep tell you to just act like a sheep.

If you are a sheep and know it, there is nothing wrong with that, but I encourage you to thank a sheepdog and even to listen to what they say….their instincts save lives. Baby sheep cannot save you, they actually put your life in more danger.

Well hello again, anonymous troll, lol hmmmmm, you see the one thing i have a problem with the equation of sheepdogs, wolves and sheep is- wheres the farmer in all of this?

After all - the farmer only looks after the dumb sheep - so he can slaughter them for profit, the sheepdog is only worth its survival on earth as long as it can protect profit .

Who`s the farmer? And does the stupid sheepdog get looked after by him well after he has done his duty? Go ask your fellow sheepdogs..........

I wouldnt worry about you barking round my door LMAO - i would just think you were some silly little mutt who has been blind-sided by the farmer.

Best wishes
Duncan

I'm a little ashamed by the comments of the "sheep" or whatever to these posts. It seems to me that the three posters haven't got a clue as to what you meant. The sheepdogs ran into the World Trade Center when every sheep ran out, and they continue to try to protect the clueless. Anyway, there still are sheep dogs out here. Rustynail (Civil Air Patrol)

it appears that the honorable Charles Grennel was too kind. he should have included the mouse in his letter to miss Edwards. the mouse...that scurries for cover in the light of day squeaking and squealing for the fear of the sheep, the wolf and the sheepdog. the mouse...that can't decide which critter is really the villain. the sheep frets about the mouse and i can understand why both the wolf and the sheepdog detest him and prey upon him.

Society as a whole is the farmer in this euphemism. IT is quite apparent that you lack the ability to follow the logic and certainty have not read the original by LTC (RET) Dave Grossman, author of "On Killing." Please also realize that in posting on a message board you have time to use the English language correctly and leave out detractants such as hmmmm (a mental pause in conversation) and lol (a childish way of saying something is laughable or laughing out loud).

Yes, Duncan, well said, well said in deed.

I see both sides of the story. The anonymous and the sheepdog’s point of view. (I am a sheepdog though at times a find it hard being a sheepdog because of the ignorant sheep.)

There is one critter you need to include in Lt. Dave Grossman analogy: Parasites.

Parasites feed on sheep, wolves, and sheepdogs. They are not picky on who the feed on. They need a bloodsucking relationship with any of the sheep, wolves, or sheepdogs. They are weak in nature and must attach themselves to other organisms.

They are deceptive and never reveal their true nature. Just like they are hard to find and identify once inside a host. They will use sheep, sheepdogs, or wolves in any means possible only to gain something from it.

They are people like George Bush Jr. and Dick Cheney (many politicians) who have never seen the outside of the real world and has always lived inside a shelter environment like inside a host.

They have never served in the armed forces or have bled. They know nothing of fangs but yet talks about it or even tries to use fangs (gun.) When allowed to use fangs they are dangerous to everyone else (Cheney’s duck hunt.)

They consider themselves the master and will try to control the host in anyway possible so they can live another day from the richness (blood) of an organism that is working hard to stay alive. They will eagerly infect your friends (pack) or offspring by spreading their offspring (lies) by laying eggs. Their offspring are not selective either and will attach themselves to a sheep or wolf too.

So as an intelligent sheepdog, don’t just protect any sheep. Protect the sheep that are not infected by the parasites and make sure you are not infected as well.

Don’t fight a misguided war in Iraq or Afghanistan so that the parasite can benefit from the bloodshed for oil.

Nice post comment, though I dont' agree in full. I think you take it a bit far and am not sure where you get your information that GW or Cheney have no real world experience. The current administration has NONE.
Bush/Cheney in fact at least know how to run businesses and did sucessfully. That is a far cry from what we have now. They both genuinely wanted to protect the US from terrorism, though may have danced on the line of taking it too far. To say they did it for oil shows your ignorance and your bias. We got no oil out of it....none.
Keep in mind that unless you get your information from people who are there such as Michael Yon or soldiers on the ground, the stuff that came out of Iraq and Afghanistan was skewed to hurt the adminstration. The dems and their allies in the media proved they don't care about us (the soldier) by ignoring all the work we did.
